A
native of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. D. Light is a born storyteller. Her high
school yearbook from Beaumont School states, Never silent where
there is talk. Never still when she can walk. She loves to tell stories.
At
Ursuline College majoring in Biology and Chemistry hoping to become
a medical doctor, all her extracurricular actives were in drama and
theater. More then once she brought down the house with her acting abilities.
However, her career
path took her many places until she arrived at professional storytelling.
Upon graduating from college, she spent five years as an Air Force Officer
during but not in Vietnam including 1-1/2 years at Karamursel
Air Station, Turkey.
After the service,
she was a Juvenile Probation Officer in Cleveland, Ohio for a little
over a year. She then went to Albuquerque, NM to pursue a Masters
in Therapeutic Recreation at the University of New Mexico.
For the next 20
years, she was a Chief of Recreation Therapy for the Veterans Administration
serving at Medical Centers in Albuquerque, Northhampton, MA and Milwaukee,
WI. She earned a Doctorate in Therapeutic Recreation along the way.
Now
she is transferring her ability to spread joy to storytelling. For the
past 12 years by combining her theater and life experiences, she
has taken the storytelling world by storm. She earns rave reviews wherever
she performs.
She
is a member of the National Storytelling Network; Illinois Storytelling; and The
Florida Storytelling Association. She successfully produced S.E. Wisconsin's Tellebration from 2001 to 2006. Storytelling With
Dr. D. Light, a cable TV show, has won two Achievement of Excellence awards.
She lives
in West Milwaukee, WI with her nine rescued kids Braveheart, a Shichon; Tutti, a poodle/bichon mix; Jackie, an Amazon Gray missing her upper beak; Thumper, a Quaker Parrot missing a leg; Bellissimo, a Cockatiel; Julio, a Peach-Fronted Conure missing toes; Mango, a Sun Conure with arthritis; and Pip and Squeak, two love birds.
